About Us

The Conversation Begins

About 30 years ago, the face of women's health finally emerged in America. It started with one women in Madison, Wisconsin who suffered severely every month. She was told that her symptoms "were all in her head", and that a tranquilizer and an antidepressant were the only solutions. She was the first to be diagnosed with Premenstrual Syndrome and the first to be treated with natural progesterone in the United States. The conviction that replacement hormones should be low dose, individualized, and identical to what each woman's body produced became the life's work of pharmacist Marla Ahlgrimm, founder of Women's Health America.

Changing the Way Healthcare is Delivered to Women - One Woman at a Time

From the very beginning, WHA's visionary founder recognized the significance of patient variability, and focused her company on redefining pharmaceutical care from a one-size-fits-all to a personalized approach using only natural, bioidentical hormone therapy. Providing personalized prescription options necessitated the development of sensitive diagnostic tests and clinical protocols.

A One-Stop Resource

In 1982, in response to the demand for her customized prescription services, Marla co-founded Madison Pharmacy Associates, the first pharmacy in America to specialize in women's health. Since then, driven by Marla's vision of a comprehensive, primary resource for women's health, the company has expanded into a multifaceted, dynamic, international specialty pharmacare company under the corporate umbrella of Women's Health America.

WHA comprises three interrelated companies:

Madison Pharmacy Associates is the first pharmacy in the nation to specialize in women's health, and one of only a few to receive the prestigious accreditation by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board, (PCAB).

Madison BioDiagnostics' state-of-the-art laboratory services specializing in salivary hormone testing and urinary rate of bone loss testing

Restore Clinical Services includes case management, ongoing hormone monitoring, web-based practice management software, and online healthcare provider referral

Still operating under CEO Marla Ahlgrimm's leadership, WHA is housed in a 17,000 square foot facility in Madison, Wisconsin. The staff of 30 includes North American Menopause Society (NAMS) certified nurses and pharmacists, health educators, laboratory researchers, pharmacy technicians, customer service representatives, and patient care coordinators, as well as insurance, billing, and shipping professionals.

Leading Experts

With nearly 30 years in the field and two books ("The HRT Solution" and "Self Help for Premenstrual Syndrome"), Marla Ahlgrimm is the premiere expert on women's health issues in the nation. Her commitment to caring for patients as individuals with unique needs drives the company's focus on top-quality products and services. She relies on a highly experienced staff and a wide range of expert consultants to ensure that every patient receives the best possible care, while every physician has access to a trusted, reliable partner.

In Her Words

"I just wanted to say 'Thank You' for always taking time out to talk to me when I call. Just knowing someone understands and cares and takes the time to give advice helps me a lot. I'm so tired of coping with PMS! That's when you help me to keep hanging on. I don't think I would have made it if I didn't have all of you at Women's Health America to help me through the rough times. Thanks for beng more than just'someone who fills my medicines'!" - Jean
